A few weeks ago a dear patient passed away. This patient and his family were very sweet. He was 94 and we had recently diagnosed him with metastatic Liver Cancer. It was secondary from a melanoma he had over 45 years ago. When I learned of his passing I knew there was no doubt that I wouldn't go to the visitation. I left work that morning at 10:15 with the funeral home just 1 block over. I arrive at the funeral home and immediately recognize about 15 people that are patients. The service was going to start at a church down the street at 11:00am. I went over to the guest book and planned on just signing it and going back to work. I knew that I wouldn't see the family but knew it would be appreciated by them. When I walked up to the guest book as I signed I looked over to the left to grab a pamphlet and then I realized I had signed someone else's book. I thought Oh Crap! I don't even know this person here. Trying to not call to much attention to my reaction ( I was wearing Lime Green Scrubs- seriously not the choice if you want to not call attention to yourself). I walk on down the hall and then see the person's book I was looking for. I signed it, then I slipped in the bathroom wondering if anyone would notice that Raymore Medical Group's name was on both guest books. So, Mrs. Parker's family I'm sorry but she wasn't really a patient. Thank goodness I didn't view the wrong body!
This is NO April Fool's Day Joke!
